An evolution of the original Fusion® Irons, the new Callaway FT Irons are a product of Callaway Golf's innovative weight-shifting science — Fusion Technology. Delivering the utmost in performance and playability, these irons feature a new head shape designed to appeal to mid to low handicap players. Multi-material construction allows for premium performance.
Features: 1. New head shape is designed to appeal to accomplished players with a thinner top line, higher toe and slightly less offset. 2. Tunite® cradle allows for 80 percent of the clubhead’s total weight to be placed in the extreme perimeter, creating a higher MOI. 3. Hot titanium face produces fast ball speeds and allows for an increased effective hitting area. 4. TPU SenSert® decreases vibration for an incredibly solid feel. 5. Modified Tru-Bore® enhances feel and performance.
These sets are actually a graduated set, which starts with the wider-soled, what they call i-brids, which replaces the hybrids and longer irons, working your way down to the thinner soled, standard type irons. It alleviates the need to go out and buy hybrids. Most iron sets you are seeing now are going from 5-PW or 4-PW. They are leaving those higher irons off so you can go ahead and replace them with hybrids, while these sets actually come with the hybrids.
The Callaway FT i-brid Iron Set is ultra-forgiving and really easy to hit. If you are a weekend warrior or a mid-to-high handicapper, you are costing yourself strokes if you are not playing a Game Improvement type iron like this.
Golfers' review:
For a player's club, the FT's are very forgiving. I think they're easier to hit than the regular X-20s. Over a week with the FT's and i'm still loving them. The 7 iron in my X-20 Tour set goes about 145-150 yards. The 7 iron in the FT set goes an easy 150 yards.
The FT's have a very high ball flight. But I need it. I am classified as having a high speed low spin golf swing. I control trajectories just as might instructor has taught me, my changing ball position at address. But coming from a set of X-20 Tours with Rifle Flighted 5.5 shafts, I think a set of FT's with Rifle Flighted Shafts would be an awesome combination.
I play the current Fusion irons and love it very much. In fact, that's the reason why my Hogan FTX isn't getting any play lately. The ball flight is very high for me but to me that's no big deal. With other irons my balls go medium trajectory then, lands takes a hop or two then stops. With Fusions, it kicks up right after leaving the club face and slowly comes down with no bounce, no hop and no roll. The result is all carry that is actually exactly the same as my old iron distance that included both carry and roll.
Best iron I've owned. I played several Callaways, Taylormades, Pings, etc and the FTs are superior. Smallish head size, modest offset and a clean appearance at address. The face is hot and about half a club longer than stainless steel irons.
